Nylon String Tenor
This instrument was commissioned by a client who is an avid steel stringguitar player, however he has also come to appreciate the sweetness and simplicity of the diminutive ukulele. By way of combining these two interests he requested that I build him a nylon string tenor guitar. Using a scale length of 580mm (22.8″), both 3/4 scale classical guitar and Requinto stringsfall right into this range. The aged Engelmann spruce top was part of the renowned late lute maker Robert Lundberg’s wood stash. I braced the top lightly with a traditional seven fan pattern. Beautiful East Indian rosewood bound with pearwood and a custom rosette of holly, pear and ebony complete the aesthetic scheme. The tuning machines are by Schertler and the pickups are by K&K Sound.
